DPS Photoshoot
These are all of the images that i ahve taken for my DPS. Some of them werent as good as others and did not fit in with my magazine. I have chosen a few that have gone on to my final DPS and i think that the ones i have chosen are the best out of all of the ones i took and they make the page more attractive and appealing to the target audience.
Contents Page Photoshoot
Below are the images that I took for my contents page.
This image is the image i chose to go in my contents for the "Beth Mann" article featured in my magazine. I had to crop it so it fitted in with the layout and so that it looked right with all of the other pictures.
The three pictures i below are the ones that i chose to go into my Contents for the merchandise section. I thought this was effective because it shows the model with 3 different items of clothing on which shows that there is a range of clothing. Also the pictures are a good size to work with as i have placed them one on top of another down the left hand side and they fit perfectly with the layout of the page and with the genre of music.
Front Cover Photoshoot
These are all of the photos i took in the studio for my front cover photo, i took a wide range of photos the ensure that i had the best photos to go onto my front cover so that it will be at its best quality. I chose a select few and tried them out and some looked better than others, i think the final one i chose was the right choice and i think that looking at the magazine now i can see i made the right choise.

First Draft of my Article
Cracked magazine has sent me here for an exclusive interview with the indie sensation herself, Beth Mann, who is bringing out her new album "Return of the Fonz". We will be discovering what the ups and down of bringing a new album out, and also getting a little bit closer to the artist herself.
Q - Firstly we would like to ask you Beth, how do you think you have got to where you are today, and also who has inspired you to do it?
A - Well, it started out when i was about 8 years old when i got my first guitar for my 8th birthday, i didn't like the guitar too much at the time and it wasn't one of my presents that i really appreciated, but then after a few weeks it had been sat there and i hadn't played it so i thought it was about time i picked it up. From then on i had lessons but mostly learned at home playing my own songs. By the age of about 15 i had been spotted by Domino Records over myspace where i uploaded most of my music, this was a big step for me because now at the age of 17 i have my first album on sale in shops that i used to buy music from.
There were many things that inspired me, bands, artists, people, but i could go on forever with those, i think the main thing that has inspired me was my family who have fully supported me and what i play.
Q - You say that there are bands that have inspired you, which one has the most and why?
A - Well, if i'm honest there are far too many but if i was to choose one it would be "Biffy Clyro". This is because i like the way they play their music, they are laid back and sound like they are having fun whilst playing, I listened to them a lot when i was making my album and i think it shows through in some of my music.
Q - Are you ready for the big stage at leeds festival 2011?
A - Yeah i'm ready, but i am obviously nervous as its like every artists dream to play at the big festivals and concerts but leeds is a step above all that because not only do i play to all my fans but i get to play with some of my own favourite artists.
Q - Is there a specific audience you think that you appeal to?
A - Thats a tough question because i feel like i want to appeal to everyone that i can, because feel like my music is quite varied on my new album. But i think i come across as quite indie which i love because if thats why i have so many fans then i want to play that kind of music to keep them happy and also to keep me playing what i love to play.
Q - Finally, this is a question from one of your fans that we have specifically chosen, "Hi Beth, my name is Daniel, i was hoping that you could tell me if you are playing any gigs near my hometown of Sedgefield?
A - Well Daniel, i didn't want to be giving much away because i may be playing at the Evolution Festival at newcastle, so i hope to see you there!
So, there we have it we have been inside the head of a talented young star, but now, where will she go next? She will be playing at gigs and festivals all this year so keep a big look out for this one because she is an absolutely Phenomenal talent!

Article Planning
My article is going to be about an indie artist called Beth Mann who is releasing her debut album "Return of the Fonz"
The article is a kind of question and answer type article, we will be asking about how she produced it where and when, and how she enjoyed it and other kinds of questions to do with her making the album. Also we are going to have a bit of information about the band like how she got where she is today and what the journey has been like along the way.
The type of language i will use is going to be like slang kind of words that teenagers and rock fans would use, this is so they can relate to what i am going to say in the magazine and so they feel closer to what is being said. Words and phrases like "exclusive" this will appeal to the audience as they are getting exclusive interviews, which makes them feel closer to the artist. Also using words like "cool" and "rock" and things like that relate to the younger generation and to the rock based audience.
There will be words that relate to the music industry as it is a question and answer style article which will contain exclusive information about how the artist got where they are today through producing and getting noticed, there will also be questions about gigs and other things.
There will be a round about 500 words in my Question and Answer style article, i have looked at a question and answer article from "kerrang" and it contains 534 words, but it looked a little bit too much and some of the questions had long answers so i have cut it down also to make it more interesting for the reader so they aren't having to read for a long time till the next question. I am also thinking about making my first question a bit longer to get the reader straight into the artists life. There is an average of about 30 words in each question in the "kerrang" article, i am going to use less words that that but i am going to ask more questions so it will still add up to the same amount of words overall. In the "kerrang" article there is an average of 20 words per line on the question, i will try to cut mine down a little bit to around 15-18 so that its a little less dragged out. But i will have a bigger answer than the question itself
My article title will say "New album from indie superstar Beth Mann". This will make my article title stand out and grab attention as it will be in a big sized bold font, also it stand out and grabs attention because it says "new album" which will always get the audience looking because its something new and they want to know about it. Also it says "Indie superstar" this will appeal to the audience i am trying to reach because it seems like people have heard of her and she is popular which will make more people want to know about her. I am not going to use a play on words as i think as it is kind of an interview situation it needs to seem a bit more professional.
Beth mann is an indie superstar, she has been in professional music for about 5 years now and now she is releasing her debut album "Return of the Fonz". Making the album has taken her a while but the final product is amazing, with a mix of heavier songs and some slow paced songs no wonder it has taken a while for this masterpiece. You may ask where she will go next? well we have an idea of what is to come. She will be appearing in this years leeds festival to show off her new album and there have already been talks of making a new exclusive song for leeds, so if you were thinking of not going there, think again!
The content in my article will be something that must be read, and eveyone will want to read it. I will achieve this by using the question and answer style article, this will be effective as it is letting the reader feel closer to the actual artist rather that someone telling them about them. it will not onl be interesting becaus of the style of ythe article but also because i am going to have exclusive news on how the artist has achieved what she has, and how she has produced the music and got herself noticed. all of these things are very exclusive topics which will make the audience very interested in it. Also the content will be fun, there will be jokes in the qestion and answer which will show that its not a serious interveiwing, it can actually be fun.
To make my reader want to read on, i will use the words "exclusive" and"new" and things along that line to keep them interested in reading more, this because they will want to know whats new and exclusive and think that they will find out if they keep reading. I will make sure all my content that goes into my article is varied, i will put some serious questions in there and once the reader thinks like they are getting bored, i will put a joke or two in to lighten the mood and they will want to keep reading through. I will also use pictures to draw the readers attention and this will make them want to read on to find out what the picture is trying to tell us or what the picture means.
The ending to my article will be a short paragraph about what is gong to happen to the band in the near fuure, maybe it will have a cliffhanger wich will make the reader want to research into the band and want to know more about them. It will also include how they got to where they ae today, and all the information on what the new CD is going to be like. There could also be a final question which will reveal a secret or something that has been rumoured to be true but not yet found out properly, this will build suspence which again will make the reader want to know more and more.
As the extra text on the page i will have the bands website and their tour dates and prices and merchandise at the bottom of the page.

Model Release Form
These are the 6 model release forms that i have had signed by my models agreeing to do modeling for my magazine.
Recce of Location
These photos are where i am going to be taking my pictures. I have chosen the studio as my location because it gives off a professional feel because i can us hight key lighting and 3 point lighting set up. I am going to take photos in the studio for my front cover and for my DPS. I am going to use the studio for my front cover because i want it to look professional and i want a clear background for my front cover. I also don't want any weather conditions to effect my picture e.g. wind and rain so i would much rather have them situated inside the studio for the shoot.
For the DPS i am also going to use the studio because i have props that are electrical and i need to be inside to use them, also its much more realistic having them inside as i am using an amp and a guitar so it wouldn't be very practical outside. I again want my DPS to be professional because i want my model to look like she is playing a song.
Flat Plans
This is a flat plan idea of my front cover for my magazine "cracked". I have chosen to have an image of a band who are looking directly at the camera but with the lead singer closer to it than all the rest. I will have them wearing clothes that relate to my genre of music as you can see in my mood board, black skinny jeans, black hoodies, checky shirts and other things that relate to this. I will use a microphone for my prop, this is for the lead singer to hold and to pretend to sing, this will also be useful to relate to my audience. The masthead on my magazine is going to be a font that looks broken/distorted. The mast head will be called"cracked" which relates to the kind of font i am using and also with the rock genre. My sell lines will all be in a bold typewriter kind of font, this isn't shown on my flat plan but it is shown in my font research post. The colours i am going to use in my front cover will be a white background, with the mast head as a royal blue with a grey stroke around it, then for my sell lines i will use a white font with the same royal blue stroke but i will make the stroke have a larger area. i am also going to have the puff Blue with a grey border, and for the skyline i am just having a plain black font. I have used words like "New" and "win" and "more" all of these words will make the reader want to find out more about what is inside.
This is a flat plan of my contents page in my magazine "cracked". I have layed it out so that as soon as you look at the page, you can see the first picture which is quite large. The other pictures are smaller but still are just as effective as it has the same effect of people want to read more. The Large picture will be of a big leeds festival logo with "2011 lineup revealed" underneath, This will make people want to read on as it is a popular festival. Also using the word "revealed" makes it seem exclusive in a way. The smaller pictures will have a small picture of what is going to be on my DPS, this will be a picture of the artist holding her new CD. And the other smaller picture will be of another one of my models, modelling merchandise. Also in my pictures i will have the page number in a royal blue colour to stand out so readers know where to find the information easily. This has a good effect because people want to know where they can find the article the picture is about and will read on. I have taken my inspiration fro 'kerrangs' magazine, who once had a similar layout. I have also used a Large font for the title of the contents which is "contents" which will be in the bold typewriter font which again can be seen in my font research. On the right hand side i have layed out a kind of list of contents which are broken up by smaller headlines. This is a good way of laying it out because people then can choose what they read. Also the colour for this will be a royal blue for the headlines nut then for the text underneath it will be in a grey colour. The background for this page will again be white.
This is a flat plan of my DPS. For the main image, it will be of the artist in the studio with an amp a guitar and a microphone. It is meant to look like she is recording a song or playing a song. This will make my artist look like she is professional yet she is having fun with her music as her facial expression is smiling. The main image will take over all of the left hand side page but i have a text box diagonally placed over the top left corner as seen on the Flat Plan. This is so people will automatically look at the picture but then also the text will catch their eye so they will read it. The colour of this is going to be in a plain black bold font so it stands out on the white background, but her name will be bigger than the rest of the text to show that her name is important so people will remember it. On the right hand side of my DPS i will have the headline "Return of the Fonz" in a quite posh looking font, this is so she seems more girly rather than having a rough text. This text again will be in plain black with a light colour red stroke because the album she has released will be red and black coloured too. The picture of the CD will be sized similar to what i have done on the flat plan but maybe i will move it up an bit and make the headline smaller. I have also used the space in the top left to have some text saying " Order through cracked.com for 25% off!" this will make the reader want to buy the album and also it will stand out on the page. I will have 2 columns for my article which have small headlines, the one on the left will say "your Questions answered" this is so that the reader feels closer to the artist when they read it. The article headline on the right will say "The road to success". The Column on the left will be slightly larger so i can fit more Questions and Answers into it. the one on the right will be slightly smaller because there wont be as much to talk about.

Font Research
All of these font insipered me toward what kind of font i want to use on my own magazine. These fonts are very usefull as the distorted cracked kind of font appeals to the younger generation as it looks like some other magazines as they use it too. Also it fits in with the actuall rock genre, as it is cracked and sctrathed which is the way rock is portrayed.
I intend to use this type of font for my masthead. Below is an example of what it would look like as my magazine will be called Cracked.
For my sell lines i am going to stay with the kind of cracked/distorted theme, but in a typewriter kind of text. I am doing this to keep the fonts on the magazine similar by keeping this effect yet bringing a new font so it all doesnt look the same and boring.
The font below is the kind of text i would like to use and this is what it would look like.
